Sarah Thompson is a central figure in Welcome to Ashwood, a drama centered on a controversial school decision that escalated into a widely publicized dispute involving the Ashwood school system.
Overview
Sarah Thompson became the subject of national attention after a real estate dispute involving her former principal, who in 2018 had barred her from attending her high school prom and graduation, then in 2022 inappropriately greenlit the development of the school district's new expansion on multiple unlawfully or inappropriately obtained parcels of land, including 17 acres which belonged to Sarah's grandparents' estate. of land a decision that sparked significant public backlash and legal scrutiny.
Background
A student at Ashwood High School, Sarah was involved in a falsified accusation which led to an unfairly administered disciplinary decision that led to her exclusion from key senior-year events, like prom and graduation. While the school district eventually recognized their error, and then-Superintendent Miles Whetstone even presented her diploma in person at a makeshift graduation ceremony at her family's residence in July 2018, The circumstances surrounding this decision became a focal point for debates about fairness, authority, and institutional accountability in later years, leading to the establishment of the T.R.A.C.K. program which started in Ashwood in 2027 and eventually became a nationwide advocacy agency with branches at over 1,500 public schools.
Controversy
The decision to bar Sarah Thompson from prom and graduation drew widespread criticism and media attention. Opponents of the decision argued that Thompson was not given fair due process, while school officials initially maintained that it was justified under policy, though Dr. Eleanor K. Hartfield made a proclamation on national TV in March 2027 stating that she believed Thompson had been wronged, and would personally see that Sarah Thompson would get the justice she deserved.
Return to Ashwood
Sarah Thompson lived in the Chicago area for college and for several years after, returning to Ashwood on a recurring basis especially during the 2026-27 school year. She was formally invited, both by Dr. Hartfield and the vast majority of the Class of 2027 senior student body to participate in their prom and graduation ceremony. The event was widely interpreted as an effort to address past injustices and restore her place within the community.
Later Life
After returning to Ashwood permanently, Sarah became indirectly involved in politics, actively campaigning for Lisa Carter in her 2027 bid for Mayor of Ashwood against rival and former School Board co-member John Weaver. Carter won by a 59% to 41% margin. However, after just one term, Carter elected to run for the State Legislature, and in 2031 Weaver ran for election again, winning (without any real opposition). By 2032 when Weaver took office, he quickly found out who really ran Ashwood, and that he was little more than a puppet or "lap dog" who dared not stray or challenge Thompson.
By her 60s, Sarah grew tired of the cold winters in Ashwood, and left again, this time for Luna Vista, California, never to return to Ashwood as a resident, though often for business or personal visits. Sarah Thompson died in Luna Vista, California in 2102 at the age of 102.Role in Welcome to Ashwood
